We offer a professional and friendly service devoted to helping our clients turn their visions into reality. We provide full architectural services for large and small projects throughout Northumbria and Cumbria. Our portfolio includes Housing Association schemes and private housing, Health Centres and surgeries, community-based schemes and commercial development. We have extensive expertise in conservation and restoration projects, particularly in obtaining Conservation Area and Listed Building Consent, with sensitive regard for the protection of heritage assets.

 

Brian Ashdown, Principal Architect
BA (Hons), Dipl.Arch. (Portsmouth)
ARB, RIBA

Brian studied at the University of Portsmouth School of Architecture.  After graduating, he moved to the North East to work for South Tyneside Council. He became principal Architect for the National Building Agency’s Newcastle office.  When the NBA closed in 1982, he took over a major radical housing improvement in the West End of Newcastle for North Housing Association (now the Home Group). He has headed his own practice for over 30 years, delivering high quality, award-winning buildings across a range of sectors (including Consultant of the Year 2009 by Four Housing Group). He has significant expertise in sustainable development and energy efficient housing. As a volunteer, Brian has given his services as architectural adviser to the St. John Ambulance Property Committee and the United Reformed Church Listed Building Advisory Committee.

 

Madeleine Ashdown, Director
BA (Hons) Librarianship, Diploma in Legal Practice
Code for Sustainable Homes assessor (BRE)

Madeleine first joined the practice as librarian and administrator, and subsequently studied Legal Practice at Northumbria University, which included a course in Planning Law. She is responsible for the planning and contract aspects of projects, as well as fulfilling the financial and administrative roles within the business. She is an experienced BRE accredited Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor and a Home Quality Mark Assessor.
